Working Out…Outside?

Love it or hate it?

Frankly,  being  a runner, I love it. There is nothing more satisfactory than getting my sweat on in the outdoors. What makes that even better is the fact that I get to do it with one of my best friends. Nothing makes for a better Thursday night than shenanigans in downtown and midtown Atlanta for the night. I even decided after the first few minutes to turn off my GPS and #runfree4me, thanks to Cori @ Olive to Run! I wish I had done the challenge this month. Maybe she’ll do it again? πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ We can all wish, right?

It was the best – so relaxing and freeing. It totally achieves its goal of just running freely. So great.

Mollie and I ran to Piedmont Park, an exquisite park full of bustling activities and lots of people getting their workouts on. We decided to pause our run and join in on the glorious fun!

100 Jumping Jacks.

A ton of relay style sprints (are the still called β€˜suicides’?) that had me begging for Mercy, kinda like Duffy does!IMG_20130530_184946

Lots of push ups and burpees.

These moves were so much fun and the park provides all kinds of relevant equipment to use along with graphics for good moves. So. In. Love.

With scenery like that, how could you not be happy and active? πŸ™‚

And tomorrow, Mollie, our friend Jeremy (who refused to post for a picture on Tuesday night) and I will be running a fun 5K tomorrow morning, followed by the festival it leads up to! Can’t wait for a fun Saturday! We even got together with some friends to make signs. πŸ™‚

Working out outside – love or hate?

Does your city have a park with these kinds of resources?

What are you up to this weekend?

  1. good luck in the 5k tomorrow! i will probably be day drinking on a patio somewhere because thats my favorite outdoor activity in hot weather πŸ™‚ sorry not sorry. actually i LOVE working out outside when its HOT. yesterday it was about 90 degrees at 6:30 and i went for an unplanned run. i just wanted to get out there. i love it. ok, good luck in the race, i know i said that already but ill say it again and have a great weekend my dear!

  2. Good luck in the race!!
Awesome outdoor workout! I always want to do circuits outside, but feel a little silly doing them alone…I need to recruit a friend!

  3. Love running outside!! I mean, who doesn’t want to be one with nature?? Just Kidding, kind of. I love nature. Nature just makes me happy, especially in the early morning. Good luck on your race!!!! You’ll do great πŸ™‚

  4. I’m jealous your park has diagrams of what exercises you can do with the exercise structures. I love working out outside, it is the only way to go! Our parks around us do the exercise structures, but no diagrams and our parks aren’t nearly as big as the one you were at. No real plans for this weekend!

  5. Enjoy your 5K!! I’ve never done a workout outside because I don’t have anyone to do them with me but I bet you get a good workout in. Plus, it’s an excuse to play on the playground πŸ™‚

  6. That park equipment looks awesome! I wish I had that. And good luck with your 5k tomorrow. Yay for 5ks this weekend!

  7. Oh my gosh that park looks so gorgeous! And I love that you guys can use the stuff their to get a great workout. I would love to have a running buddy all of the time, but our mornings just don’t align all the time. Way to go on your awesome workout and I hope you guys all have fun on your 5k!!! Have a great weekend!

  8. Good luck with your run! The exercise equipment is amazing! Great park. Sara and I walked our pups through there in December. So fun.

  9. Good luck on that 5K, dear! I just know you’re going to kick butt and have a great time to boot πŸ˜€ I will most likely be eating something grilled and drinking something fruity, as this is my favorite thing to do during summer πŸ™‚

I LOVE the extra sweaty outdoor workouts, but not going to lie – sometimes I just need to kick it inside! Lol

  10. Love love love and adore working out, outside. It is great to feel the fresh air while getting your booty kicked and it’s just a nice change of scenery. I feel like time goes by faster, too. I hike whenever I can! Love the blog, fellow fitness junkie over here as well. XO

  11. Way to change up the run, girl! I’m incredibly impressed that you had enough energy to do all that in the middle of it haha…normally I’m just trying to finish so that I can go home and pass out in the air conditioning for a few hours πŸ˜› I am not a warm weather lover for running at all…my body is taking awhile to adjust and it’s been frustrating haha, but I’m getting used to it…as long as I’m up and out before 6, things are ok πŸ˜› Good luck with the 5K tomorrow!!

  12. I totally prefer running outside to the treadmill. No question. But it is suddenly getting super hot and humid out of nowhere and it is taking me some time to adjust to the temps! I zone out so much when running that I don’t even vary where I run. I literally loop the same ol loop on the path that circles my community. I must me one of the few people that doesn’t need to look at much while running. I swear I don’t see anything but my thoughts most of the time.

  13. I WISH i had a park like that! And even more… I WISH I had a permanent workout buddy! I would love to have someone to grab when I get those sweaty cravings on these summer evening’s!!!!

You two are great haha πŸ™‚

  14. Outside, love love love it! It’s one of my favorite parts of Australia. Everyone works out outside, and there’s all kinds of equipment like push-up and sit-up benches, pull-up bars, tricep dip benches, etc. available to use at parks and outdoor areas. That’s so great that you have that in Atlanta. And I love your outfit πŸ™‚ Have a great rest of the weekend hun!

  15. I’m an inside workout girl… always at home! But I love nature and love a golf course more than just about anything else! Tennis isn’t bad either. I often think I should move to CA so I could enjoy year round outdoor activities. Maybe when we are empty-nesters??
